Wacky Weather: Storm blasts Cape Cod (December 10, 2005)

What's up with the weather? It seems like there have been numerous strange weather occurrences over the last year. The first ever hurricane in Brazil, the New Orleans hurricane, and this impromptu hurricane on Cape Cod. STORY

The storm's severity surprised meteorologists as much as residents.

''People's barometers saw tremendous falls and subsequent rises,'' said Walter Dragg at the National Weather Service in Taunton. ''Wind fields, weather and water responded in an anomalous fashion. This was not normal.''

Temperatures fell 10 to 15 degrees between 2 o'clock and the beginning of the heavy winds an hour later. Winds from the south that averaged 30 to 50 mph at the beginning of the storm shifted to the west and intensified to 40 to 70 mph, according to Dragg.
