Breathe (2 a.m.) - Anna Nalick

I caught the chorus of this song on my way home from my daughter's soccer game in Darmouth on Saturday. Wow, how true, "Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable, lifes like an hourglass glued to a table, no one can find the rewind button, so cradle you head in your hands, and just breathe." Yep, that's about right. The older I get the more words like these make sense. Hind sight is 20/20. Not one second can we do over again.

Lyrics That Hook Me:

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
can you help me unravel my latest mistake,
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to critisize,
hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
and life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button girl,
So cradle your head in you hands
And breathe, just breathe,Woah breathe, just breathe

May he turn 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist,
Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year.
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe, just breathe,Woah breathe, just breathe

There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout
But you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
These mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, its no longerinside of me,
threatening the life they belong to
And i feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathewoah breathe, just breathe,oh breathe, just breathe.

i love this song because shes just written everything she felt on paper to scream it out to the world...thats what i want to do. Although writing your pain and mistakes on paper hurts and it's hard to say everything you exactly want to, singing them out loud makes it all worth it. This is her,and only her, and you just take it all in.

Oh, my gosh! This is so true! I think that Anna is a really good singer, and I'm a singer too, but this would have to be my favorite song to sing! It pretty much fits any mood. These lyrics are so real. I always wanted to write a song like this, to sing, and to tell everybody how I feel so that they can relate to it also!

Actually I think its about making mistakes in general, and moving passed them and using them. And making a really good song out of them and making money off them.

Yeah, I thought it was about that when I first read the lyrics, too. I'm pro-life and still don't feel bad for loving this song, though =). It's not condoning it or condemning it, it's more about how these moments happen in life and really the only helpful thing you can say to a person is "Breathe; take it slowly, one day at a time, don't get overwhelmed, etc, etc"

i really didnt understand this song all that well, but once i thought about it... it came together like a puzzle. i love the part where she says There's a light at the end of this tunnel you shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out...
...of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary screamin' out aloud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to. this is like my life im still growing and learning, so im gonna make some mistkes, like drinking and party! but im just gonna have to live with them even if i dont like what i did.. just like everyone else

Anna Nalick stinks. She needs to go to college and study literature, and so do all of you if you think her lyrics are great. It's nothing more than 8th grade "pretend" poetry, trying to sound like literature. If you're going to use metaphors, then make sure they make sense. Don't mix them all up just because it "sounds" good. Since when does an hourglass have a rewind button?

No offense, but if you knew anything at all about literature or poetry, you would understand that there are no rules to either art form, or any. Literature is not literal. Telling Anna Nalick to take a literature class, to write lyrics that make sense to you, to use metaphors that are consistant would be like telling Picasso to go to medical school and learn anatomy. Just because you are too literal and critical to understand that "rewind button" merely means the ability to turn back time doesn't mean that this is a good song. Obviously this song has spoken to many people, and they love it. The popularity of this song speaks to its depth and value. Poetry is free, who are you to write the rules? If you are worthy of judging this song, post some of your own lyrics and let the rest of us judge them.

Oh, and F.Y.I. songs are supposed to "sound good." Maybe you would know that if you went to college to study MUSIC!

the first verse is about an abortion, the second is about a man who is in the army, the third is about how your half way between heven and earth, and the last verse is about her about her writting her feelings down on paper

alrite whoever said that it isnt good and its 8th grade material it isnt and F.y.I she didnt say an hourglass has a rewind button and hourglass that is glued to the table means u cant shake it up again to go bak and she cant find another way to rewind time.so thats why she says that!its called reading and obviously u dont noe nothing about literature.
